Alright, I know I've made fun of Jersey Shore...specifically in the GTL post last time. But now I'm a little buzzed on wine and actually watching the show.
Commercial break! Shake weight. Add size, definition & strength. By the way, if your arms, chest & shoulders aren't on fire within 6 minutes...money bacl guarantee!! Science fact, not fiction. Dynamic inertia. Piston-like motion. I don't know if you knew this...but the shake weight has an iron clad, kick butt guarantee. (I tried one at Bed, Bath & Beyond and it was scary...I'm pretty sure my Saturday morning yoga class works out my arms more vigorously.)
Imagine getting paid to club & drink. Wow. I mean J Woww? I saw them all in Miami while on vacation. There was some staged confrontation in the street near where my fiance and I were having dinner. (we weren't fiance's yet...we met in Miami 6+ years ago and he proposed that night on South Beach.) And the cast of Jersey Shore was there...so romantic! :-) For real, it was amazing, regardless of who else was on the planet. :-) :-) :-)
And now, T-minus 2 weeks until we're Mr. & Mrs. Night night, too much vino...

GTL?
Def: The process of staying fresh and mint. Stands for "Gym, tan, laundry." Must be done everyday to achieve maximum potential. Side effects include fist pumping. Coined by the eloquent Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from MTV's ground breaking Jersey Shore.
Used in a sentence: "You gotta GTL everyday to make sure you're looking your best bro. If your shirt looks bad it makes the whole product look bad."
Interesting...thanks, Urban Dictionary. Let's deconstruct this.
Gym - Yes! We could all use a little fitness in our day. Also acceptable: WTG - "walk the dog", DY - "do yoga", or good-old-fashioned GFAR - "go for a run".
Tan - I strongly oppose this one. I really don't think anyone should tan. Um, hello...melanoma? A tan, to me, is just the byproduct of some healthy outdoor time. Let's replace this with SPF (wear at least 15!) and strive, instead, for our daily dose of Vitamin D instead of that fake 'n bake outter shell.
Laundry - We all need to do laundry...but every day? Don't most of us own enough clothing to get through at least one week without having to do laundry or repeat-wear any item? How about LOOS "laundry only on Sunday"? Or more realistically LWIROOU "laundry when I run out of undies"?
And somewhere in there we need to eat, love, drink, smile, laugh, sleep, dance, and so on. Real world application could be more like WTGSPFLWIROOU, and that's just for starters!
For now, let's BLD.
Breakfast: Cream of Wheat with cinnamon, Gala apple and a chai tea with honey & vanilla soy milk
Lunch: a leftovers-salad. Trader Joe's Veggie Fried Rice, tomatoes and cucumbers over romaine and other greens with a drizzle of Gina's "crack sauce" (sriracha).
Dinner: Trader Joe's Spinach Artichoke Dip and Multigrain Tortilla Chips and White Cat wine in front of the TV. Was lazy.

Slipped My Mind...
I forgot to tell you about the rest of my Eat, Eat, Eat weekend!
Picking up with Sunday (August 8th)...
My parents kitchen has been under construction, and my mom doesn't love cooking, so after church she suggested we go out to breakfast. I said "naaahhhh...do you have eggs?" "yes" "do you have veggies?" "yes" "do you have cheese?" "yes" "flour, milk, sugar?" "yes, yes yes" "Don't worry Mom, I'll whip up breakfast!"
I was dying to test out the kitchen updates (a huugge ceramic farmer's sink and amaaaazing granite countertops) so I set right to work making omelets to order and pancakes. My brother talked me into flipping the first omelete, which I did and the dogs ended up eating it off the floor. Oops! Good thing my parents haven't had the new floor installed yet.
Breakfast rocked, I love feeding people!
Fiance then headed up to Maine, for appointments with the bakery & wedding reception place, and so he could finally see the hotel I was telling everyone to stay in for the wedding. On the way, we stopped at the outlets in Kittery and poked around for a litte while. Then we went to Bob's Clam Hut for lunch...I LOVE BOB'S! I have my friend Cameron to thank for telling me about this place a few years ago. They make the most amazing lobster roll, and delicious fries, and they're open all year round. I get there maybe 2-3 times a year, so Bob's is always a special treat. This was my fiance's first time there, but he doesn't do seafood so he enjoyed a cheeseburger.
So Bob's in belly, we continued North to Ogunquit. After finding a parking spot, we walked to the hotel. He approves! Whew. Next, bakery. I had sampled cake once before, but the fiance had never had a fresh sample, so we each had a cupcake then ordered our wedding cake. One 3-tier vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, and one sheet cake with vanilla cake, rasperry filling, and lemon buttercream. Since we had a tasting for the reception in just 2 hours, we walked off the Bob's and cupcakes along the Marginal Way. It's so beautiful. Hopefully we'll be able to get pictures there for the wedding.
Last stop, food tasting! We tried 3 different salads, caprese, caesar, and garden; chicken picatta; and 2 fish dishes, baked seafood-stuffed haddock and caramelized salmon filet. I was disappointed they didn't have any appetizers or beef dishes for us to sample, but oh well. What we had was delicious! The place uses local, organic ingredients whenever possible. I didn't think to snap any pics until we had nearly demolished the food. And the fiance hates being in pics, that's why the blurry hidden face.

The drive back down to MA was slow-going, being a Sunday evening in the summer. We were exhausted by the time we got back to my parents house. Topped the night off with some leftover ice-cream cake from my mom's birthday, and hit the sack.

My Poor Dog
Today Bear was the unfortunate recipient of the worst haircut of his life.
I dropped him off before work, so happy that later in the day he would be cooler. I told them to shave him with a #7 (not right to the skin) but to keep some of his characteristic Terrier beard. The groomer called at lunchtime to tell me Bear was ready. I went to pick him up, and they brought out a dingo.
They completely shaved his beard off! (compare to his pic in the last post) Oh well, at least he's cool and it will grow back. But I think he's embarassed.
On a brighter note, my breakfast was delicious! Iced coffee in my Copco cup with vanilla soy milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a variation on Overnight Oats in a Jar from Tina at Carrots 'n Cake. Last night I mixed some toasted flax seeds, oats & oat bran in a jar with golden raisins, coconut, a blob of peanut butter and vanilla soy milk. When I got to work, I microwaved it for a minute or so and ended up with the yummiest, creamiest, most filling breakfast. It's also super delicious straight out of the fridge, but I work in a freezing cold office so I like having a hot breakfast.

I almost wasn't hungry for my leftovers-salad at lunchtime, but remembering the enchilada in there got the best of me. Yes, an enchilada in a salad. I had leftover Trader Joe's Black Bean & Corn Enchilada from the night before, plus sauteed mini-pattypan squash (from the farmer's market!), caramelized onions, and some goat cheese that I just tossed on a mix of Romaine and other greens. Didn't last long enough for a picture. :-)
Can't wait to see what I cobble together for dinner. The fiance is out of town, so I can take more liberties with what I call "dinner". It usually includes a glass of wine. A few years ago, some friends and I went to the Great Grapes wine festival and discovered Red Cat, White Cat & Cabin Fever by Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards. White Cat is what's uncorked for this week in my fridge.
Almost time; Cheers!

Bear and Deer
Good morning! My dog, Bear, and I saw a few deer on our morning walk today. Watching him watching them was just too funny! I walk with my phone (just in case, ya never know) so I was able to get a great pic. Check out the one ear up. It's ALWAYS like that. Cutest.
Then Bear stopped being interested. How cute is that face? He needs a haircut, bad. This humid Maryland summer has been tough on the furry guy. Grooming appointment Monday morning!

Eat, Pray, Love? More like Eat, Eat, Eat...
Last weekend I ate. And ate. And ate!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at my fiance's friend's wedding on the 6th. The fare at a New York wedding is always extravagant and the wine is always flowing, and this wedding was no exception. I left stuffed...but not too stuffed to dance first! I'm the dancin' fool in blue. My friend Jeanine (my fiance's cousin's fiance...follow?) and I sure tore it up on that dance floor! Our fiance's stood by the bar and "looked cool".
Next stop, Saturday morning, was my parents house in Massachusetts. Lunch was at the cutest little local country store, Fern's in Carlisle, MA. I had a turkey sandwich piled high on a local bakery's garlic herb bread, and slathered with a cranberry mayo. Mmmmm. And my brother scored some amazing smoked salmon, cream cheese & dill dip and was so sweet to share with me. The fiance and I took our full bellies over to the church where we're getting married in October to fill out some paperwork and chat with the priest. We now just have to choose some readings for the ceremony. Good stuff. (I almost FORGOT...while in NY, before the wedding, we ordered our wedding riiinnggs!!)
Dinner was perfect. My brother, Ben, is a grill master. He has a favorite butcher shop, Meat Again in Westford, MA, so we went there to get some marinated steak tips. He said the nicest thing to me as we were preparing dinner for the fam together...something along the lines of how he got his love of food/cooking from me. Awwwww! Anyway...
3 amazing flavors of marinated steak tips later: Hawaiian Cowboy, Cheese & Garlic, and Teriyaki, I whipped together some of my "famous" potato packets for the grill (famous in my family anyway) with some of the potatoes my mom got in her CSA that week, garlic, butter, oil, salt & pepper, and we threw some corn-on-the-cob on the grill which had been de-silked but left in the husk and soaked on water. Mom assembled a perfect green salad, and the meal was complete. Eating dinner on the porch with the fam on a delightfully mosquito-free summer evening...priceless! (wish I had though to take a pic or 2) Dinner was followed by a dessert trip to Kimball's. If' you don't know about Kimball's, I'm truly sorry. A kiddie cup of Coconut Almond Chip ice cream topped the day off. Full...belly...
Stay tuned for the next day's eats!

Away We Go!
- Mini roadtrip with the fiance and dog begins tomorrow!
- Stop 1: New York, for my fiance's friend's wedding and to hopefully pick out OUR wedding rings.
- Stop 2: Massachusetts, to visit my family and meet with the priest for OUR wedding.
- Stop 3: Maine, for a reception food tasting for OUR wedding!
I can't wait to get out of work (eep, it's not even 11:00 am yet!) so I can get home, pack, and get to bed at a decent time so I won't be hating my life at 5:00 am when we get up to leave.
I haven't been drinking Starbucks lately, but my wonderful fiance delivered a much-needed venti latte about an hour ago. Wish I had the day off too! The seam in the cup was splitting (that doesn't happen at Dunkin'!); good thing I have a huge mug at my desk...
It's not really those colors; I was just playing with the camera settings on my Droid.
BTW, Happy National Clown Week! Betcha didn't know that. ;-)
